Description

Chobanian et al. found that diastolic blood pressure tends to increase until about 50 years of age, then levels off for a decade and may remain constant or even decline later in life. There is also significant individual variability. Decreases in diastolic blood pressure are thought to result from decreases in elasticity of the arterial vasculature (particularly the aorta).
