Description
Telomere length might be reduced during ageing in hematopoietic stem cells. Nonetheless, an age-dependent decline in telomerase activity and telomere length was not significant in one study by Wagner et al. There was also a tendency for an increasing interpersonal heterogeneity of telomere length with age. CD34+CD38 stem cells purified from adult bone marrow have shorter telomeres than cells from fetal liver or umbilical cord blood.
