Description

The number of de novo mutations in offsprings having autism spectrum disorder or schizophrenia increases with the father’s age by an estimated effect of 2.01 mutations per year. This suggests that, as a man ages, the number of de novo mutations in his sperm increases, and the chance that a child would carry a deleterious mutation increases.
